At our Community Inclusion Center we run a Saturday Respite Program and a Full Time Pre-vocational Program. Our program features training focused on teaching adults with special needs (aged 18 and over) the skills needed to prepare for gainful employment.

Programs Offered
Science, Technology, and Engineering
Individuals will learn to utilize computer technology tools to cultivate knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a passion for it and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM field. STEM activities such as science projects and stem sets will provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student. Making math and science both fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn.
Intro to Interpersonal and Communication Skills
Interpersonal communication is the process of face-to-face exchange of thoughts, ideas, feelings, and emotions between two or more people. This includes both verbal and nonverbal elements of personal interaction. These skills involve the ability to communicate and build relationships with others. Often called people skills they tend to incorporate both your personality traits and how you’ve learned to handle certain social situations. Effective interpersonal skills can help you during the job interview process and can have a positive impact on your career advancement.
Team Building
Students will work together as a team and participate in activities that promote being a team player, critical thinking, cognitive skills, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Which can be utilized in the workforce and everyday living.
The Fundamentals of Teaching Fitness
Students will learn the duties and responsibilities of a fitness instructor. Which includes leading exercises, learning the importance of wellness and nutrition, the proper way to use exercise equipment, and ensuring that the area is clean and free of health and safety hazards.
The Fundamentals of Teaching Yoga
Students will learn the fundamentals of yoga and will have the opportunity to explore teaching yoga and learn the job description of a yoga instructor who is a fitness and wellness professional who leads in yoga. Individuals will lead their peers on how to perform the various stretching poses, practice meditation, and promote mindfulness in addition to overall wellbeing.
DIY (Do It Yourself Projects)
In this class students will learn to be creative and imaginative while focusing on an end goal. Students will be using their hands and honing motor skills while we create items for practical everyday use or for making their own merchandise. Some of these items include jewelry, utensil holders, placemats, homemade candles, household decorations and so much more.
Baking
Their Place offers this fun and engaging culinary baking class for any foodie who wants to learn how to be a professional baker or learn the basics. Individuals will begin with kitchen basics such as culinary tools, kitchen sanitation and knife skills. Once kitchen safety is established, we will focus on the savory and sweet foods produced by professional bakers and pastry chefs. Foods ranging from yeast bread, pies, cookies, and cake decorating.
Cooking
Students will learn the basics on how the kitchen works which in turn helps them explore if they would want to pursue a career in the culinary field. Students will learn proper cutting, measuring of food/recipes, use of culinary vocabulary and math. They will also learn how to utilize kitchen appliances and kitchen safety. Staff will also help individuals gain knowledge of reading and writing recipes as well as growing herbs. Students will also learn to create a shopping list as well as the use of coupons for discounts and pricing.
Reading
Students will increase their fluency with vocabulary and comprehension. Which helps to develop stronger skills with communication and pursuing a job in the workforce.
Fine Art
This course focuses on artistic practice while developing basic professional skills for pursuing a career in the art field. This will include painting, printmaking, and sculpture.
Web Design and Computer Programing
Individuals will gain technical skills. Students will explore the basics of creating a website and the fundamentals of programming using SCRATCH and other software programs.
Theater
Individuals will enjoy the basic concepts of theater and explore the various career possibilities that theater may have. They will use various creative drama techniques to build ensembles, stimulate imagination, movement, and role-play with an emphasis on believability and sensory awareness. Will apply observation and emotional memory to reveal thoughts and feelings and to build believable characters and situations.
Life Skills- Social and Emotional Learning
Individuals will focus on social and emotional coping skills that will help them in the workforce and in their everyday lives. They will discuss goal setting, decision-making, and challenges they may encounter daily.
Creative Writing
Individuals will be exposed to different genres of writing, where they will have the opportunity to create their own works and explore the literary world as a possible career. They will focus on works of fiction, poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, and nonfiction.
Socialization & Communication
Individuals will be encouraged to socialize with their peers. They will also be included in discussions, debates, presentations, and public speaking. Clients will be taught how to do research, write letters and emails. Manners, etiquette, body language, posture, personal space, and facial expressions. The goal is to empower all to apply these skills in the workforce and their everyday lives.
Computer Technology
Individuals will address and explore the skills necessary to be successful in the working world- including Computer Component Fundamentals, Keyboarding and Microsoft Office Fundamentals.
Music
Individuals will be introduced to basic music reading, instruments, music theory, and history. While in music individuals will learn how and why music sounds the way it does, music history; what music is and has been, specific periods and what they sound like/what drove that. Individuals will learn the basics of music and what career options music can lead to.
Intro to Life Skills
Individuals will learn how to make informed decisions, build healthy relationships, empathize with others, basic hygiene, and self-management. The goal is for all attendees to develop a sense of self-awareness and become a team player at work and in life.
Financial Literacy and Job Readiness
Individuals will learn money-management and how it applies to job readiness. Subjects that will be incorporated are mathematics, resume building and interview tips to help students. The goal is to help all foster a balanced and organized life that supports their individual needs.
Graphic Design
Graphic Designers create visual concepts to communicate information. Individuals will create posters and billboards to packaging, logos and marketing materials. They will use elements such as shapes, colors, typography, images and more to convey ideas to an audience.
